Bringing Clarity & Understanding to the design table:  Understanding all operational, safety and control aspects of a specific type of system is critical.  Experience in the field of offshore control design is a critical element in what we do. Often systems work in specific safety hazard environments and require explosion proof components and specifications. This is common place in crane design applications in the offshore oil & gas industry and is often a contract requirement. Without an appropriately designed system the contract is not attainable.  Marine and Offshore applications require harsh environmental components that can stand up to not only the salt sea but also heavy vibration.
 
The Diotcon Approach to Design:  Safety and Preventing Downtime is the most important aspect of any control design. A few basic guidelines we follow:
1. Keep the control circuit direct, basic, simple, and easy to troubleshoot.
2. Where possible redundancies should be built in so that if certain areas of the system fail the core of the system can still be operated. 
3. On certain essential systems provide a key'd emergency override of interlocks to ensure system operation during an emergency.
4. Interlocks should be kept to a minimum. Other warnings and messages should be easy to acknowledge and review without too much interference operating the system.
5. Hardware & components must be designed and tested to meet heavy duty vibration and harsh environmental conditions for prolonged periods of time.
6. All components should be hot swappable meaning they should be quickly and easily changed out in all conditions and will be plug and play.
7. We build modern systems reducing the mass cabling and multitude of panel boxes found in most systems. 
8. Duty Cycle and preventive monitoring should always be considered in an effort to prevent major downtime from occurring.

Our Vision

Don't let a poorly designed control give your system a bad name. We are a technology driven company offering professional control system design. Working for many years in the offshore oil & gas industry we have seen so many new control systems built to resemble a dated system from WW2, poorly designed, not operator friendly, and do not hold up over time causing costly down time to our customers. Even worse, we see many overly complicated systems with PLC's, HMI's and extremely large panel boxes and wiring layouts leading to poor reliability, and require a specialized technician just to touch or trouble shoot the system causing extremely long down time intervals before repairs can be carried out by a factory engineer. Often way more safety interlocks than required making the system difficult to operate & difficult to keep the system operational. We also see nonsafety related sensor failures that prevent the machine from operating. General lack of or poor customer care (service, support & customer training) and inability to respond to requests or to deploy technicians in a timely manner. We also see very poor operation and technical manuals supplied with some very complex systems going against the tradition that a ship at sea should be easily repairable by the crew stationed on it.

So many systems do not take advantage of technology that increases the control's simplicity and also offers much greater system reliability and improved operator control. Reducing the size and complexity of a system from the typical large panel boxes and mass of wires down to just a controller with a few wires feeding the system offers so many benefits and greatly improved reliability. In addition to these monumental design improvements we add visualization, touch interaction, redundant control circuits with keyed interlock overrides, data collection and playback, built in & online system evaluation and troubleshooting tools, real time global alerts and tracking, dutycycle service alerts & spare parts tracking. These are just basic system enhancements that offer so much owner advantage. In addition to this we offer software and sensor packages that bring a tremendous amount of operator awareness, increased safety and reductions in operator fatigue.  These additions also allow so much more data to be visualized tracked and played back for future training, accountability, accident prevention for presentation to a new or existing customer. There is no reason why the technology that we hold in our cell phone every day should not be incorporated into major offshore control design. The touch interface alone with glass face reliable capacitive touch is what every control engineer should now be incorporating into their systems. This is far from the truth and we are working daily to change the old way of thinking. We also offer custom apps for the user to inspect & monitor system with on their handhelds, pads, & PC's. Our Solutions

Control Retrofits, Add on Systems, OEM designs. We offer multitouch HMI's with user friendly intuitive interface designs for all aspects of Jacking, Crane and other Deck and Marine Systems.  We focus primarily on the marine and offshore markets providing professional solutions designed to meet the salt sea and hazard zones required in the offshore oil & gas fields. ABS, DNV, Loyds approvals as needed and API design and service requirements met and provided for crane systems.

3D multibeam sonar systems add underwater depths and sea floor awareness along with mapping and navigational capabilities. For jackups & selfpropelled liftboats knowing what is down there before and after you jack can be critical and truly beneficial information.  Combining 3D real time interactive control displays and the 3D sonar systems with additional sensor arrays and control logic can be used for real time visualization to an underwater and non-visible environment for dredging applications, jackups and more

Our Services

On Site Service: Our service team is well equipped to not only handle the control end of a system but we also support the mechanical and hydraulic side as needed. Our ability to service both the cranes and the jacking system on jackups leads to cost savings for our customers. We also offer and support fully hydraulic crane controls for some customers with many years of experience in hydraulic system design. We can deploy a service team in most regions of the world to support our customers. Please call for area specific pricing information as our rates vary in different areas of the world to remain competitive and to support our service personnel in higher risk environments. We typically keep our offshore travel docs and yearly medicals up to date however many areas have specific requirements that must be met and we can attain as needed.

 

Off Site Support:  We provide phone & email support with all systems that we install/service and will do what we can to get a system up and running prior to sending a technician/engineer out for a service call. We offer offsite online service for systems that allow a data connection for login support. We also offer scalable system monitoring services and support offsite login to monitor and check live systems sensory and history data. 

Customer app for offsite Monitoring:   We offer custom built apps for system login and live monitoring. This is system specific customized and requires a data connection. Providing a secure data connection is a priority when designing the system for customer login to protect the system. For safety reasons we ensure that the control circuit in any design is not accessible from an online data connection. We take the approach that all systems are hackable and therefore no connection to the control circuit can be allowed.  In most systems that we build the control circuit is physically separated from the data collection and online entry side of the system preventing any possible crossover and offering the highest level of security possible for an online system connection.
